Bright Eye

Light where you need it.

A work light for the Unreal Editor level viewport. Light up the dark area you’re working on without placing temporary lights, switching out of Lit mode, adding anything to your level or marking your map as modified.

What’s new in 1.2

Rebuilt around a lightweight work light

Redesigned Quick Panel

Control brightness, beam width, range, smoothing and light color without leaving the viewport. The panel compacts when idle.

The Unreal Editor Tools menu with the Bright Eye submenu open: Quick Panel, Keyboard Shortcuts, Documentation and Give Feedback.

Native editor shortcuts

Bright Eye’s shortcuts live in Unreal’s Keyboard Shortcuts, so they rebind like any editor action and your custom bindings survive updates. A Tools › Bright Eye menu opens the Quick Panel and a shortcuts overview.

Nothing added to your level

No helper Actors, no level content and no modified maps just from using the light. Settings live in your own editor configuration.

Cursor Aim · Refined in 1.2

Point the light, not the camera

Hold Ctrl + F to aim the light at whatever is under your mouse while the camera stays exactly where it is.

Reliability work

  • Aims correctly when the camera sits inside a mesh’s collision
  • Recovers from a rare case where Cursor Aim stopped responding
  • Held shortcuts release when the editor loses focus
  • No interference with right-mouse viewport navigation
  • Cleaner handling of map changes, plugin disable and shutdown
  • No continuous updates while Bright Eye is inactive

Bright Eye is still just a viewport work light. That’s the point.
